Experiences of the 2024 Scholar

Luca Roberts, ISEP’s second scholar, commenced his scholarship in 2024 and has fully embraced the opportunities that the programme offers.  Reflecting on his first year:

“At first, I found it a bit confusing, but I soon adapted. What stood out most, though, was the diversity of people around me. I was surrounded by students from all walks of life — each with their own cultures, habits, and perspectives. It was overwhelming at times, but it also taught me a lot about understanding others and growing beyond my comfort zone.

Beyond academics, my time here has been filled with memorable experiences. I’ve done things I never imagined — like watching fireworks on the promenade, being swept up in the roar and excitement of the TT races, and even trying indoor rock climbing. Boarding life came with its own adventures too: the silliness of our “Olympics,” late-night football games at 9 PM, and spontaneous walks and deep chats with people I now call friends.

Managing deadlines, activities, and expectations can feel like a balancing act. But I’m determined to make the most of this experience. My plan? To keep learning, keep growing, and seize every opportunity that comes my way.”

Experiences of the 2023 Scholar

Kayla Bobb, ISEP’s inaugural scholar, has found that her two year ISEP scholarship has been transformational.

“From the moment I stepped into the boarding house at King William’s College (KWC) on October 2nd, 2023, I felt nothing but warmth, patience, and kindness. Arriving a few weeks late, I had to catch up quickly; my teachers and classmates ensured I adapted smoothly.

Coming from St. Vincent, boarding life was a new experience; it quickly became one of my favourite parts of KWC.  The boarding houses, Colbourne (boys) and School House (girls), form a tight-knit family, filled with late-night conversations, hot chocolate evenings, and a vibrant mix of nationalities.

Despite being the only Caribbean and Black student, I never felt out of place; instead I enjoyed sharing my culture; from my accent to my braids!

I’ve embraced incredible opportunities; representing KWC in competitions, lectures, and events, from advocacy contests to the Rhetoric Competition.

The support I received when I fell ill and was hospitalised, including visits from teachers and students, truly touched me. I was amazed that even the Principal came to visit me.

With a valuable education ahead and friendships that feel like family, I’m forever grateful for this opportunity”

Kayla’s two year scholarship has culminated in passing the highly regarded International Baccalaureate in 2025 and after a gap year, Kayla plans to take up a place at York University to study Law.

Students Who Attended ISEP 2022 were awarded SVG Government scholarships in October 2023

In October 2023 four students from the 2022 ISEP Study Tour were awarded scholarships by the SVG Government. Ramiro Georges won the Peter Ballantyne Award; Emma Rouse won the Peggy Ince-Hull Award; and Aturo Parsons won the Olivia Bentick Award -- all being National Scholarships. Darius Da Souza won an Exhibition Scholarship.

Darius is now looking to study marine biology and is leaning towards marine conservation and ecological studies. He was already considering marine biology, but was convinced after being inspired during his visit to the Isle of Man where the themes of conservation were stressed and made a big impression on him.

Myles Hamilton was accepted into the Cave Hill Campus of The University of the West Indies to study Environmental Science. Niston Douglas is due  to attend the University of The West Indies, Mona Campus, in Jamaica where he will be studying Computer Science.

Other students are now attending universities of their choice and Victoria Stewart has joined the British Army.
